In part II of a lecture series on the Jews of Al Andalus, the rich history and cultural flourish of Sephardic Jewry during the Muslim rule of Spain is explored. The time period under scrutiny spans from the early Middle Ages, highlighting the intellectual and artistic contributions of Jews that were bolstered by the relatively tolerant Islamic environment. This era witnessed significant advancements in poetry, philosophy, and science within the Jewish community. However, it also sets the stage for the challenges that lay ahead with the Reconquista and subsequent Spanish Inquisition. This lecture aids in understanding how this historical period was pivotal for the development of Sephardic identity and Jewish diaspora.
