They Threatened to Kill Me for Saying Hi to a Jew. So I Became One
6 Jul star 0 Communities Ethics
Rawan Osman grew up in Lebanon under the influence of Hezbollah, which instilled in her a strong animosity toward Jews. However, her experiences abroad in France led her to challenge these ingrained beliefs. Meeting actual Jewish people prompted her to study Hebrew and explore Jewish history independently. This intellectual and cultural awakening ultimately led her to convert to Judaism and become a proactive supporter of Israel, advocating for dialogue and understanding between Jews and Arabs. Her activism has not been without personal cost, as she faces threats and estrangement from her family. Despite these challenges, she continues to publicly support Israel and fosters cross-cultural communication.
