Amram bar Sheshna, a Jewish scholar in the ninth century CE, wrote the first-ever Jewish prayer book known as Seder Rav Amram Gaon.

Moshe Rosenfeld believes he has discovered the first printed book in the West, a siddur (Jewish prayer book) from 1444, predating Johannes Gutenberg's printing press by about a decade.
