JL;DR SUMMARY In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a rift emerged between the Hasidic movement and its opponents, particularly the Lithuanian mitnagdim, over theological issues, notably pantheism. A way out west there was a fella, fella I want to tell you about, fella by the name of Jeff Lebowski.
