JL;DR SUMMARY Martin Goodman, in his book "Herod the Great: Jewish King in a Roman World," dismantles the Christian myth surrounding King Herod and sheds light on the historical account provided by the Jewish historian Josephus. A way out west there was a fella, fella I want to tell you about, fella by the name of Jeff Lebowski.
