Journalist and former CNN commentator John Avlon has shifted his focus from punditry to politics by entering the primary in New York's 1st Congressional District to challenge a vulnerable Republican incumbent.

Marilyn Strickland, the newly elected Representative for Washington's 10th congressional district, made history as the first Black representative from the Pacific Northwest and one of the first Korean-American women in Congress.
